An Intro, of Sorts

Standard

I never like to talk about myself, but I do think some background is important. I love food. LOVE. I grew up welfare-poor, and many nights, all that was available for dinner were meals that included things like Kraft mac & cheese, hot dogs, cereal, or pasta. This is occasionally still the case, as I am still poor, and these foods are still relatively cheap. But I do like to cook and bake, and I like to be adventurous and experimental. So, when I have the opportunity (and the funds/ingredients) I like to try things I haven’t eaten before.

Recently, I’ve made a friend (hereafter referred to as D.) who was eager to learn to cook. We’ve taken it upon ourselves to make this experience exciting, so each time D. comes over, we try to cook something from a different country (or at least something one of us hasn’t tried before).

That’s where these posts come in. My experiences with D. have encouraged me to be more adventurous and experimental whenever I cook, and I thought it might be fun to show people how it is possible to create fun and exciting meals, while still remaining in a budget. I will, hopefully, include pictures and links to the recipes I used (as well as my notes on substitutions and alterations). I also intend to estimate the cost for these meals, and how many the recipe fed. I’ll also declare each recipe a success or failure.

I hope you find this informative and (mildly) entertaining!

Verdict: SUCCESS
